Pumpkin math!

Happy Halloween! This year for Halloween centers we cut open 9 pumpkins! Each table group got a small, medium, and large pumpkin...and they worked in groups of two on the pumpkin of their choice!

Each pair had to describe what their pumpkin looked like, weigh it, measure how tall it was with cubes, measure the circumference, count the seams and then gut the pumpkin and count the seeds!

Our little pumpkins weighed under 1 pound!
I was super impressed at how independent these kiddos were with this project! I have never had this many pumpkin groups going at one time and they totally rocked it!
Anneliese and James worked really well together! First they wrapped a piece of yarn around the pumpkin and cut it...then they stretched out on the carpet and measured the string with cubes!
Thank you so much to the parents that were able to help us out!
McKayla did most of the pumpkin gutting because her partner Cullen thought it was disgusting!
To count ALL of these seed we put 10 seeds in a cup and then stacked up the cups and counted them by 10's...still a tricky concept but they did a really great job!
Saylor, Erica and Makayla's pumpkin had 620 seeds...in that tiny pumpkin!!!
I love my little helper Kimber...she is always looking for chores to do at the end of the day to earn candy...well of course you help out girl!!!
