Gingerbread City

A few years ago my awesome friend Dana Kelly (seriously genius friend) came up with a Gingerbread City idea...Every year the kids LOVE this project!

At the beginning of December we read through all the versions of The Gingerbread Man! There is a Gingerbread Cowboy, A Ginger Girl, A Gingebread Baby, Gingerbread Pirates, Gingerbread Friends, A Gingerbread Man Loose in the School...the list goes on...and on...and on...

Thankfully the kids are always on the edge of their seat waiting to find out who will get eaten and who will survive the "fox"!

Then it was our turn to create a Gingerbread City! This class was hilarious during the brainstorm process because they were very thoughtful about what a Gingerbread person might eat or shop for in a store...We decided we weren't sure what they eat so a hotdog stand was added to the list of restaraunts! Each student had the opportunity to contribute to our community list of buildings...then they got to choose the materials they wanted to construct their building! Check them out...

Aidan and Ethan working together so well on their Library!
Pink Football stadium is complete!!!
Makayla is working on the Jewelry store for the Gingebread people...it is important they accessorize!
So much mess...I LOVE being able to just say here's your materials...Have fun! They did an AWESOME job at staying on task!

Now we work on putting the town together! They constructed houses out of candy and picked the "lot" of land! They decided where the roads should go and what buildings should be next to the nieghborhood...the school of course!!!
Everybody is add finishing touches to the town...
And working on their Gingerbread yards...

This was CRACKIN' me up...Here is our beach and the marshmallows are beach chairs and the coco puffs and gum drops are people relaxing in the chairs...this is a first for that! I LOVE their creativity!
There are also whales and boats in the ocean water...

The girls decided we needed a playground in the middle of the neighborhood because it was so empty...they are trying to decide how they are going to make swings ;)

The Beach Hotel...on beach front property created by Bentley!
The Hotdog Stand also on beach front property created by Nicholas and Connor!
The fancy Jewelry store located next to the beach because people will want to shop when they are too hot....created by Makayla!
The Zoo created by Reece...located next to the football stadium and the beach in case the kids get bored!
The Grocery Store created by Greta and placed conveniantly in the middle of town!
The Fire Station created by Nicholas and Connor! These guys made a great team...the straws really work like hoses!
The Elementary School was created by Karys and Anneliese and is very detailed! There is a bell on top and a girl fishing of the back!

Chase created by Evelynrose and the Bank created by Leland below were put side by side because they help each other! (I just followed orders...these are all their reasonings!)

Kimber's Football Stadium next to the beach...and the Hospital!
Saylor's hospital complete with an emergency room!
Ethan and Aidan's Library turned out perfect!!  They even put potted trees out front!
Reece decided that the Gingerbread people also needed a church...She put it next to the neighborhood!
Erica's Beach building...like a visitor center! Welcome to the Beach!
