The Story of Fred:
Once students were presented with their challenge they were split into partners or groups with their materials. They had to come up with and document a solution in their science journals before testing it out! Each partner had to listen to their partners ideas before deciding which strategy to try out first. If they were successful they had to come up with a new way to save Fred! If they encountered some challenges they had to discuss what went wrong and what they could try differently next time. There were some GREAT conversations happening all around the room!
After our challenge was over we gathered on the carpet and discussed what we learned from our challenge today! Science isn't always about making things explode...even though that's totally awesome! Sometimes it's about the process...will we communicate? Will we try new ideas? Will we support our partner's ideas? Will we keep trying even when it seems impossible? YES!!!
Fred sure was delicious! Good thing we saved him!! YUM!
